Winky Wright returned to winning ways with a unanimous points decision against Ike Quartey on Saturday night.

Wright was bouncing back from the disappointment of his draw against Jermain Taylor and was in control throughout the bout.

He sent Quartey crashing to the canvas with a crunching right in the second round although his rival quickly regained his feet and smiled during the referee’s count.

Wright produced a much more aggressive performance than had been anticipated.

He also sent Quartey to one knee in the seventh round although again his opponent quickly recovered.

The fight ended with a dramatic 12th round, Quartey starting it by unloading a flurry of punches only for Wright to finish it on top.

He did enough to win on all three judges’ scorecards, 117-109, 117-109 and 117-110.

“I dropped him. I hurt him. But he kept coming back,” Wright said. “I wish I could have knocked him out, but Ike’s a durable guy.”
