Bernard Hopkins v Robert Allen

Bernard Hopkins defended his undisputed middleweight title with a points victory over Robert Allen.

In the co-feature to Oscar De La Hoya’s WBO title tilt against Felix Sturm, Hopkins scored a unanimous decision win over Allen, a fighter he has now boxed three times as a pro.

Scores in Vegas were 119-107 (twice), and 117-109 for Hopkins, who improves to 44-2-1 (31) while defending his undisputed middleweight crown for the 18th time.

‘The Executioner’ never really looked like stopping Allen, who from the first round gave the impression his game plan was more about survival than taking the fight to the masterful Philadelphian.

The 39-year-old Hopkins was always the boss, but afterwards seemed unhappy with his night’s work.

However victory means that Hopkins should now meet De La Hoya in September, a fight that would be the richest non-heavyweight bout in history.
