Diego Corrales v Acelino Freitas

America’s Diego Corrales claimed the WBO lightweight title when stopping the previously unbeaten Brazilian Acelino Freitas in Connecticut.

Freitas was floored in the eighth and ninth rounds and then threw in the towel after hitting the canvas for a third time in the 10th.

IBF interim light-welterweight champion Sharmba Mitchell warmed up for a November date with Kostya Tszyu with a second-round knockout of Moises Pedroza.

Meanwhile Thailand’s Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai retained his WBA super-featherweight crown with a unanimous points win over former champion Steve Forbes, prevailing by 117-111 on all three cards.
