Shannon Briggs v Sultan Ibragimov

American Shannon Briggs lost his WBO title on Saturday after suffering a unanimous points decision defeat by Russia’s Sultan Ibragimov at the Boardwalk Hall.

Ibragimov used his agility to easily outpoint Briggs 119-109, 117-111 and 115-113 and leave America again without a heavyweight champion.

The 32-year-old Ibragimov, an Olympic silver medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, remained undefeated as a professional.

Briggs (48-5-1) had won 12 straight bouts and captured his first career title by scoring a technical knockout victory against Sergei Liakhovich in November 2006.

Ibragimov joins Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko (IBF), Kazakstan’s Oleg Maskaev (WBC) and Ruslan Chageav of Uzbekistan (WBA) as heavyweight champions.
